Professor Julien Wegrzyn, MD, PhD, is an orthopaedic surgeon-scientist and academic leader internationally recognized for his expertise in hip and knee reconstruction, musculoskeletal research, and surgical innovation. He currently serves as Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology and Director of the Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine at Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and the University of Lausanne (UNIL), Switzerland.<\/p>\n
Professor Wegrzyn completed his medical degree and orthopaedic surgery training at the University of Lyon, France, before earning a PhD in Mechanics through collaborative research with Harvard Medical School. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, further strengthening his expertise in hip and knee reconstruction, biomechanics and translational musculoskeletal research.<\/p>\n
His clinical practice and research activities focus on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, robotic-assisted surgery, biomechanics, enhanced recovery pathways, implant innovation, and the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. His work aims to bridge engineering, translational science, and clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and advance orthopaedic care.<\/p>\n
Professor Wegrzyn has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals and serves on the editorial boards of several international orthopaedic journals. He is an active member of numerous international scientific societies and has received several prestigious awards for his contributions to orthopaedic research and innovation.
