The INIPC Academy was officially launched in Buenos Aires during the 50th Argentine Congress of Anaesthesia. On October 9th, an inaugural lecture and speech marked this important milestone, attended by five founding members who celebrated the Academy’s beginning.
As a global non-profit initiative, the INIPC Academy is dedicated to advancing perioperative care through evidence-based practice, education, research, and international collaboration. Its mission, to unite healthcare professionals, institutions, and governments across continents, aims to reduce disparities in surgical and anaesthesia care, while respecting local traditions, capacities, and resources. The launch received a warm and enthusiastic response from participants and colleagues worldwide.
During the Congress, the INIPC Academy was invited to collaborate with the AMTENA Foundation (Asistencia Médica Thomas Elkins Norte Argentino). Led by Dr. Alejandro Nolazco and Professor Adrián Álvarez, the AMTENA Foundation is a renowned Argentine non-profit organisation committed to surgical outreach, education, and capacity-building in underserved regions. Its volunteer teams have performed a wide range of procedures — including hepato-biliary surgeries, abdominal wall repairs, reconstructive and paediatric plastic surgeries, and ophthalmic procedures, all aimed at strengthening local surgical capacity and improving access to specialised care in remote communities of northern Argentina.
In recognition of his exceptional humanitarian contributions, Dr. Alejandro Nolazco has recently received two of Argentina’s most prestigious distinctions:
- The Hipócrates Award 2024, presented by the National Academy of Medicine, honouring his outstanding commitment to surgical equity and women’s health.
- The Abanderados Award 2024, granted by Canal 13 and Clarín, celebrating individuals who make extraordinary contributions toward a more caring and equitable Argentina.
The INIPC Academy is honoured to collaborate with the AMTENA Foundation. Together, we are planning joint research initiatives and activities focused on improving perioperative healthcare and advancing our shared mission of global surgical equity.
